1977 Chevron B39
Chevron B39 Formula Atlantic No. 39-77-05 was imported by Chevron distributor Fred Opert and originally purchased and raced by Formula B National Champion Ken Duclos in his familiar black, gold and red livery during the 1977 season. It was also reportedly driven by Gaston “Gus” Andre during this period.
The car is one of eleven B39 Formula Atantic cars built by Chevron. Other B39s were driven by Bobby Rahal and Keke Rosberg in the 1977 Formula Atlantic series. After being raced by Ken Duclos, Chevron 39-77-05 was acquired and raced by Rick Stone in the 1980s, and then acquired by Tim Gaffney who sold the car to Cy Moreland in the early 1990s. Cy repainted the car in the current French blue Gitane livery. In 2003, the car was acquired by Lee Chapman, Lee Chapman Racing, New Milford, Connecticut, who undertook a comprehensive restoration that was completed in 2010. The car had its vintage racing debut later that year at Mont-Tremblant and Sebring.
Lee sold the car to the present owner, Chris Locke of San Anselmo, California in December 2010. Chris has competed in the car at historic racing events throughout the United States and Canada, and it has been guest driven by Lyn St. James at several historic racing events. The car is maintained by John Anderson Racing, Sonoma, California.
